Ride-haling firm Bolt has revealed insights into how Nigerians traveled in 2022. According to the statement shared with Techpoint Africa, Nigeria’s capital, Abuja, had the highest orders on the site in 2022.
Coming after Abuja came Lagos and Port Harcourt, with a record amount of trips in 2022.
While Nigeria’s capital city ordered the most rides in 2022, it recorded 90,000 orders on its best day — Children’s Day — while Lagos recorded 120,000 rides on its best day, which was May 6th, 2022.
The best performing day in other cities, including Calabar and Owerri, was 10,000 rides apiece on Valentine’s Day, February 14.
Big tips amid the economic downturn
The global economic crisis didn’t stop Port Harcourt from recording the biggest tip of ₦25,000 ($34). Riders in Owerri also tipped their drivers as much as ₦19,400 ($27), while the city with the third highest amount of tip is Yenogoa, with ₦10,700 ($14).
Interestingly, the cities with the largest number of orders — Lagos and Abuja – restricted their gratuities to ₦3,000 ($4).
In Lagos, the most common pickup site was the Lekki-Epe highway, while the most popular destination was Ikeja City mall, Ikeja.
