Let’s start from here, we all started from somewhere and were once called newbies. Every expert was once a newbie, some even had the worst beginning and yet are called experts today, so chill, exhale and let’s take this journey into becoming a “tech bro”. If you are new to the word “tech bro” it’s not gender base, it’s for all, I am trying not to laugh at how weird you might be feeling right now.
Becoming a techy newbie can be a daunting experience, but with the right mindset and approach, you can quickly become job-ready and motivated. In this article, I will provide a comprehensive guide on how to be job-ready as a techy newbie and how to stay motivated while learning.
Identify Your Learning Goals
The tech industry is full of exciting and lucrative career opportunities, but if you’ve never worked in IT and you have no relevant experience, breaking into tech might feel like a pipe dream. The first step to becoming job-ready is to identify your learning goals. Ask yourself what you want to achieve, what skills you need to learn, and what type of job you want to have. It’s essential to have a clear idea of what you want to accomplish to stay motivated and focused. Trust me if you get it right here, you can land a job in less than 6 months and if you miss it here, it might take you more than 2 years trying to figure things and you will shouting “God when” when you see those that started with you posting I just got the job.
Learn the Fundamentals
Don’t stop me I will say it, some of you want to job the process and just see yourself working at Apple and Google. If you jump or skip the fundamentals you will be eaten like an apple or you won’t stop googling even Chatgpt showing you the answer.
To be job-ready, you need to have a solid understanding of the fundamentals. This includes programming languages, database management, web development if you are programmer and Design Principles for Designers also for other related fields. There are many online resources and courses available that can help you learn these fundamentals.
Build Projects
I will try not to beg you to do this because why are you here if you don’t like building? Have you seen a civil engineer that doesn’t like building like he gets so lazy whenever it comes to building a house? why are you laughing lol? Building projects is one of the best ways to develop your skills and gain practical experience. Start by building small projects and gradually work your way up to more complex ones. These projects will provide you with a portfolio to showcase your skills and experience to potential employers. Even at elitePath, we don’t show mercy when it comes to dishing projects for students to work on. I mean what is learning without practising? Practice they said makes what? No, you are wrong, practice makes improvement.
Join Communities
Joining online communities and forums can be a great way to stay motivated and learn from other techy newbies and experienced professionals.
Community is the future of business and Community professionals are becoming hugely important within companies and organizations.
There are many online communities available, including elitePath, Figma Port Harcourt, GitHub, Stack Overflow, and Reddit.
My take on communities is “Community is in our DNA and essential to who we are. We live for the moments when one can step up to help other community members learn and grow in their careers without asking for anything in return.

Seek Mentorship
Having a mentor can provide you with guidance, support, and motivation. Look for experienced professionals in your field who can offer advice and help you develop your skills.
One of the learning demands in elitePath is the mentorship of students and you get it although your program and even after. You need someone that will hold your hands for real.

Attend Networking Events

- Stay Positive – Maintaining a positive attitude can help you stay motivated and overcome obstacles. Surround yourself with positive influences and avoid negativity. Do not get intimidated by people’s progress this will hinder you from moving forward, celebrate people’s wins while learning and avoid pressuring yourself to succeed. Tell yourself “I’m going to get a job,” say it and believe it.
